Our Team

Summit Church is led by a team of Elders and Pastors.

TODD HOSTETTER

TEACHING PASTOR || ADULT MINISTRIES || ELDER

Todd was born and raised in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. After spending the first 32 years of his life in his hometown, he relocated to West Michigan with his wife Wendy and their four sons. In 2006, He responded to the Lord’s call to full time ministry and joined the Pastoral staff as the Assistant Pastor. Todd oversees small groups and counsels through Grace Counseling, the church’s Biblical counseling center. Todd also serves as an elder.

JASPER SWANEY

TEACHING PASTOR || ELDER || BIBLICAL COUNSELING

Born and raised in South Carolina, Jasper realized as a teenager good manners wouldn’t save him. He needed forgiveness. At the age of 15 God saved him and called him to ministry. He earned his bachelors of Theology and Pastoral ministries at Appalachian Bible College. There he met his wife Sarah. They have 3 beautiful girls. Jasper serves on staff one of our Teaching Pastors as well as Counseling Pastor. Jasper also connects Summit with the Holland Rescue Mission via our Gateway Gathering ministry. Gateway Gathering is a chapel service for the residents of the mission, as well as the public. The goal is to bring Summit Church to them, giving the body an opportunity to reach out to those hurting in our community with the good news of Jesus Christ.

BJORN JOHNSON

TEACHING ELDER

Bjorn grew up in Mundelein, Illinois.  He is a graduate of Wheaton College, in Wheaton, IL, where he played football and studied media communications.  Bjorn and his wife Heather met at Wheaton, and were married in 1999.  After living in the western suburbs of Chicago for a decade, they moved to Heather’s hometown of Holland, where they now reside with their two sons, Hunter and Brock, and their golden retriever.  As an elder, Bjorn typically focuses on planning and oversight, and occasionally teaches on Sundays.  He also serves on our worship team as a creative writer and drummer.

CORY KENT

WORSHIP PASTOR || MEDIA & PRODUCTION COORDINATOR

Having served churches for well over 20 years, Cory is still passionate as ever about using music, design and production to create opportunities for people to engage with God’s presence. On staff at Summit Church since August 2014, Cory oversees all aspects of worship, media and production with a desire to see people grow in their understanding of worship and purpose to lift high the name of Jesus with passionate joy and conviction. Before full-time vocational ministry, Cory studied theatrical sound score design at Purdue University (MFA 2001). Originally from the southwest suburbs of Chicago, Cory previously served as a worship pastor in Indiana for 13 years. Cory is married to Alison, and they have 4 boys. He prefers his puns to be intended.

VICKY VER BEEK

DIRECTOR OF SUMMIT KIDS

Vicky relocated to Michigan from the Chicago suburbs after marrying her husband Craig. They live in Holland with their three children, Annie, Charlie and Joey. After graduating from Grace College in Winona Lake, IN she taught children with special needs in a variety of public and private school settings. It was through her experience as a preschool Bible teacher that she discovered the joy of teaching children about the God who loved them so dearly He sent His only son to save them from their sins. Through our own brokenness, we can model to these children how desperately they need this Savior and how His is the only power that can transform their hearts. She is committed to teaching these sweet little ones the truths of our mighty God here at Summit Church.

SAM BURNS

DIRECTOR OF SUMMIT STUDENTS

Sam grew up in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon and moved to Michigan in 2018. While he grew up knowing about God, it wasn’t until Sam was 17 that he truly knew God and accepted Him as his Lord and Savior. Since 2012, Sam has been involved in a variety of youth ministries, has spent time coaching middle school and high school sports, and also has worked in a high school back in Oregon. Sam met his wife, Bekkie, and moved to Michigan in 2018 to marry her. Together they have served in the youth ministry at Summit Church for several years. They have a son and are excited to welcome a daughter into their family this winter. Sam is passionate about students because it is a critical season of growth, change, and ultimately decisions that start to effect the trajectory of your early adult life.

GLENN KARSTEN

ELDER

After living the first few years of his life in West Michigan, Glenn spent most of his childhood and early career years in the Wheaton, Illinois area.  A job related move brought him back to West Michigan when Summit Church was founded (then Grace Church!).  Glenn has served as an elder since the beginning of the church.  Glenn and his wife Cindy have 3 adult children who all are faithfully following their Lord in their churches.  He has a financial background and has also been involved with sports ministry for many years.  He currently coaches basketball and is an avid Illini and Chicago sports fan.

DENNIS STEWARD

ELDER

Dennis was born and raised by Godly parents in Charlotte Michigan.  College brought him to West Michigan as he attended Cornerstone University (Then Grand Rapids Baptist College).  While there he met his wonderful wife Kirsten. They have two children Mikayla and Mackenzie and one son in law Bernie Campos- who all are part of Summit Church as well.  Dennis and Kirsten have attended Summit Church for 22 years and Dennis has been an Elder twice now in that time. He took a few years off to return to school to obtain his Master’s degree from Michigan State University, now working at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo as a nurse practitioner in the rapid response team.  As an Elder, Dennis has a passion for helping others move from unbelief to belief in the Gospel in all aspects of their life.

PETER WEBSTER

ELDER

Peter grew up in Stevensville, Michigan and attended Western Michigan University where he studied accounting. He works in the food service industry which lead him to move to the Holland area in 2001 where he met his wife Katie and married her in 2004. They have six children.  Peter came to know the Lord later in life in the fall of 2002. He is presently serving the body as an elder and has focused on feeding the flock through small group leadership, family teaching through Summit Homes and teaches Sunday school.
